Samsung shipped 39 security fixes to Galaxy devices on May 6, 2026, while simultaneously launching the stable One UI 8.5 rollout in South Korea. The Samsung software roadmap May 2026 brings changes to every update tier, and three devices exit the quarterly list entirely. Here is exactly what your Galaxy gets this month.
May 2026 Security Patch Brings 39 Galaxy Fixes — Including Two Critical CVEs
The May 2026 patch contains 29 Android CVEs and 10 Samsung-specific SVE items. Two of those CVEs carry a “critical” severity rating, according to the Samsung Mobile Security work scope bulletin. Samsung waited for Google to open Pixel updates before releasing its own bulletin — a pattern that repeats each cycle.
Ten SVE items appear in this patch, but Samsung only disclosed details for seven of them. The footnote reads: “Some SVE items included in the Samsung Android Security Update cannot be disclosed at this time.” Samsung routinely withholds details on fixes that require coordinated disclosure before public acknowledgment.
Samsung Semiconductor did not contribute Exynos-specific patches this month. That means chipset-level vulnerabilities — if any are pending — will arrive in a future release.
Samsung Software Roadmap May 2026: One UI 8.5 Stable Rollout Begins May 6
Samsung launched the stable One UI 8.5 rollout in South Korea on May 6. The Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 received it first. Galaxy S24 series users are in a second phase, with no fixed timeline confirmed.
The stable build ships with April 2026 patches, not May. Samsung finalized the May bulletin after the build had already been staged for release. Users on One UI 8.5 Beta who own the Z Fold 7 or Z Flip 7 received the stable build as a phased expansion from the beta channel. For a full breakdown of what One UI 8.5 changes on your device, Cloudorian’s One UI 8.5 device list and rollout guide covers the schedule in detail.
One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 and delivers Audio Eraser, Call Screening, a rebuilt Quick Panel, and Perplexity-powered Bixby. The update weighs approximately 4.5 gigabytes for foldable devices upgrading from One UI 8.0. Connect to Wi-Fi before you begin the download.
Monthly List Unchanged — Three Devices Exit the Quarterly Tier
The monthly update roster for May 2026 is identical to April. No devices were added, removed, or transferred. Samsung’s flagship and foldable lineup stays on the monthly schedule — the Galaxy S23 through S26 series, the Z Fold 4 through Z Fold 7, and the Z Flip 4 through Z Flip 7 all remain confirmed.
Three devices left the quarterly list this month: the Galaxy A13, Galaxy A23, and Galaxy M33 5G. Samsung removes devices from the quarterly tier when their official support window closes. If you own one of these models, no further firmware security updates will follow. Is your Galaxy still on the list? The Samsung Mobile Security scope page publishes the full eligibility chart each month.
For users on mid-range Galaxy A, M, and F series phones still in the quarterly tier, updates arrive once every three months. Samsung transfers devices from monthly to quarterly roughly one year before support ends entirely.
One UI 9 Beta Opens Before June — Based on Android 17
Samsung is already preparing One UI 9 internally. The first Beta build has surfaced for US models. One UI 9 runs on Android 17, which Google is set to detail at The Android Show on May 12. The public Beta program is expected to open in South Korea by the end of May or early June. Germany, India, Poland, the UK, and the US should follow in the same phase.
The stable One UI 9 release will debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 in July 2026. A wider rollout across older Galaxy flagships is expected in September or October. For context on how Samsung stages security updates between major One UI cycles, Cloudorian’s Samsung March 2026 Google Play system update guide explains how parallel update tracks work.
What does One UI 9 mean for Galaxy S24 and S25 owners? Both series are expected to receive the Beta program in the first or second phase, with stable builds arriving before year-end.
Check Your Galaxy Now — The May 2026 Patch Is Live
Open Settings on your Galaxy. Tap Software update, then tap Download and install. If the May 2026 security patch is available in your region, the download starts immediately. If the update does not appear yet, check again in 48 to 72 hours — Samsung staggers rollouts by region and carrier.
One UI 8.5 follows the same path. Galaxy S25 series and foldable owners should see it in Settings right now if they are in Korea or a region that has opened the rollout. S24 series users are in the second phase — watch for the notification in the coming days and do not rely on the automatic push alone.
