Samsung One UI 8.5 Rollout Starts May 6 — Eligible Devices and Key Features

-

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 rollout officially began in South Korea on May 6, 2026, targeting flagship phones, foldables, and tablets across the Galaxy ecosystem. This is the widest mid-cycle update Samsung has ever pushed, covering over 80 devices on Android 16. If you own a Galaxy phone from the last four years, your device is almost certainly on the list.

Which Devices Are Getting One UI 8.5 First

Samsung’s official announcement confirms Korea as the starting point for the May 6 wave. International markets follow within days, though timing varies by region and carrier.

The first devices in line are:

  • Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge
  • Galaxy S25 FE
  • Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7
  • Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6
  • Galaxy Tab S11 series
  • Galaxy Tab S10 series

Is your device missing from this list? Galaxy S23 series, S22 series, and the broader A, M, and F series lineup enter the rollout through May and June.

What One UI 8.5 Actually Changes on Your Phone

Bixby receives the largest upgrade in this release. Samsung rebuilt it as a conversational device agent, powered by Perplexity’s search model. You describe what you want in plain language, and Bixby handles the action without navigation steps.

Bixby now also pulls live web results inside its own interface. You no longer get redirected to a separate browser or app.

Ambient Design brings blur effects across system UI elements and a floating, pill-shaped tab bar to Samsung’s stock apps. The visual change is immediate after installation.

Privacy Protection blurs bank details, ID numbers, and billing information in screenshots before you share them. Samsung processes the blur on-device without cloud involvement.

Audio Eraser removes background noise from recorded videos after capture. Partial Screen Recording lets you record any selected display area without capturing the full screen.

The New Bixby Feature Worth Testing Right Away

Samsung’s Bixby update in One UI 8.5 processes intent, not just commands. Tell Bixby you want the screen to stay on while you read, and it activates the correct setting by itself.

Have you tested Bixby with a setting you cannot name? That is the real differentiator here. Bixby can pull up relevant options when you describe a problem, such as a screen that stays on inside your pocket, and apply the fix without you locating the setting manually.

The gap between the demo and daily use shows up when your request is vague. The Perplexity-backed model handles clear intent well. Ambiguous phrasing still produces mixed results, so framing your request as a specific task rather than a general question gets faster, more accurate action.

How to Check for the One UI 8.5 Update Right Now

Cloudorian’s One UI 8.5 stable rollout guide with the full device list covers every eligible model and regional schedule in detail. If you are already looking at what comes next, the One UI 9 beta opens for Galaxy S26 owners in late May 2026.

To pull the update manually, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings on your Galaxy device.
  2. Scroll down and tap Software update.
  3. Tap Download and install.
  4. If available, tap Install now or schedule it for overnight.
  5. Your device restarts and completes the installation.

If the update does not appear, your region or device tier has not entered its rollout wave yet. Check again every 48 to 72 hours.
