Typing can be eliminated in Windows 10 by simply speaking to your computer. Built-in speech recognition and dictation features are included in the OS. Let’s get started with setting up these devices.

How to Enable Dictation and Speech Recognition in Windows 10

In Windows 10, you can speed up your text creation by pressing Windows+h to leverage Microsoft’s speech recognition engine. While it may already be set up for you on your computer, you will likely have to head over to your computer’s settings to turn it on.

First, you need to access the Windows Settings. Open your Start menu and select the gear icon to complete this action. Additionally, you can hit Windows+I on your keyboard to reach that location.

In Settings, click โ€œEase of Access.โ€

On the left pane, scroll down and click โ€œSpeechโ€ in the sidebar. Under Speech settings, click the switch located below โ€œTurn on Speech Recognition.โ€ It should switch over to the โ€œOnโ€ position.

In the event that you don’t speak any of the supported languages, keep in mind that speech recognition is only possible in English, French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese. Hit Windows+Ctrl+s to turn on or off the computer’s voice recognition capabilities instantaneously.

The first time you use speech recognition, you will have to customise it to work with your voice.

Setting up a microphone with a desktop, mobile, or headset microphone is required for basic functionality. Then, follow the instructions that pop up on your computer to select and set up your microphone. When using dictation software, a headset mic is the preferred option.

Say the phrase from the software onto your microphone, and the programme will catch your voice and understand your speech when you use it.

After you are done, just pick whether or not you want the computer to scan your emails and documents for training purposes to boost its voice recognition.

As soon as the setup is finished, you can start talking and typing at the same time!
