The Apple Watch Series 7 Lacks Third-party App Icons

One issue has already surfaced with the first shipment of Apple Watch Series 7 devices. Some users claim that third-party apps don’t show up on the home screen with their icons and are instead invisible.

A developer working on Apple-related products discovered it first. He clarifies that the icons are visible in Xcode’s simulator, but not on the actual watch. Older watches, even when running watchOS 8, have perfectly good icons, so some speculate that this is due to the new screen dimensions and resolution.

To get around this problem for the time being, set the home screen view to “List.” Even though the app icons are missing, you’ll still be able to tell which one you’re looking at thanks to the list view, which also shows the app names.
