BMW 3 Series EV will be released in China

Last week, we saw an image of the upcoming BMW 3 Series EV, and now we’ve got the actual deal. The first ever electric version of the BMW 3 Series has been unveiled, but it is only available in China. For the time being, at least. We believe, however, that the design given here will be used for the ICE version as well.

While the car’s name may be a play on the original BMW i3, it has little resemblance to the original model. The new sedan’s driving system is shared with the BMW iX3, i4, and iX models. The new i3’s top power of 281 hp (210 kW) suggests it only has one electric motor, but the manufacturer hasn’t specified how many there are. That’s good for 6.2 seconds from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour.

More than half a million miles of autonomy is reported by the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). To compensate, the WLTP endurance will be reduced. The automobile has a 66.1 kWh battery that can be charged from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes using a 95 kW DC charger.

Other than the luggage capacity (410 litres), BMW withheld all information about the inside. There are no images of this event.

 

Since the news release states, the eDrive35L has been specifically built for the Chinese market, as some of the components have been fitted to conform with China’s supply chain, and the suspension has been calibrated for Chinese road conditions. As a result, a global version of the vehicle may differ in various ways.
